Informatica World 2024 was a groundbreaking event that brought together data enthusiasts, experts, and innovators from across the globe to discuss the future of data governance and strategy. Our team had the privilege of attending this year’s conference, where we engaged in insightful conversations, explored cutting-edge advancements in data management, and connected with our valued customers. As a proud Informatica partner, we enjoyed the opportunity to deepen our knowledge of this impressive data governance platform and present on our success with Grady Health.
A Collaborative Presentation with Grady Health
One of the standout moments of the event was our collaboration with the Grady Health team. Prominence’s Principal Data Governance Strategy Advisor, Alison Knight, joined them to discuss their innovative approach to analytics and data governance. Grady Health’s holistic strategy not only accelerates adoption but also drives organizational excellence in analytics. This presentation shed light on the practical steps and strategic decisions Grady Health has implemented to foster a robust data governance framework that supports their analytics goals.
Assembling the Right Team
Grady Health’s journey toward robust data governance started with hiring the right people. They sought a Data Governance and Analytics Education Lead to develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive data governance, stewardship, and education program. This role oversees an inventory of supporting processes to advance the adoption and usage of enterprise data and analytic assets. The Lead promotes the efficient and accurate use of key metrics across the organization and is responsible for a comprehensive understanding of healthcare data governance.
The Lead’s responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining an education program to increase data literacy and analytic maturity.
- Ensuring effective information management through the collection, aggregation, and consolidation of data governance records.
- Maintaining consistency and control over the ongoing maintenance of data definitions, owners, and other metadata.
- Collaborating with organizational leadership and BI/Data teams to align data governance strategies and processes.
Effective interfacing with leaders and data consumers across the system (e.g., inpatient and ambulatory clinical operations, finance, administration) is crucial. This role requires advanced knowledge of the healthcare industry, data governance, and stewardship, as well as the analytic needs facing care teams and operations.
Leadership, ownership, and engagement are fundamental—having the right team, the right ownership, and engaging experts is key to success.
Adopting Business Units and Stewardship Engagement
Grady Health’s strategy emphasizes the importance of understanding ownership and stewardship between subject matter experts (SMEs), data business owners, and data technical owners. By fostering a culture of data stewardship, Grady Health ensures that data governance principles are embraced and practiced at all levels.
This approach promotes a shared responsibility for data governance across the organization, enhancing the overall effectiveness and sustainability of their data management efforts.
Informatica Implementation
As part of their larger data journey, Grady Health has implemented Informatica’s tools to drive data literacy and provide business context for terms. This implementation is a crucial element of their strategy, enabling them to maintain high standards of data quality and compliance.
The benefits of Informatica implementation include:
- Driving Data Literacy: Informatica’s tools help to increase data literacy across the organization by providing clear definitions and business context for data terms. This helps staff understand and utilize data more effectively.
- Enhancing Data Quality: By leveraging advanced data management capabilities, Grady Health can ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of their data. This enhances decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Providing Business Context: Informatica’s solutions help to contextualize data within the business, making it more accessible and understandable for all users. This fosters a deeper understanding and more effective use of data assets.
Driving Organizational Excellence in Analytics
The presentation highlighted how Grady Health’s strategic approach to data governance is a driving force in achieving organizational excellence in analytics. By establishing a strong governance framework, they have been able to:
- Enhance Decision-Making: With high-quality, reliable data, Grady Health can make more informed and accurate decisions. This leads to better outcomes across various operational and clinical areas.
- Improve Operational Efficiency: Streamlined data processes and automated management tools reduce the time and effort required to handle data. This efficiency frees up resources that can be redirected towards more strategic initiatives.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Robust data governance ensures that Grady Health remains compliant with all relevant regulations, reducing the risk of legal issues and fines. This compliance also builds trust with patients and stakeholders.
- Foster Innovation: With a solid foundation of reliable data, Grady Health is well-positioned to explore new analytics and initiatives. This fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Grady Health’s presentation at Informatica World 2024 was a testament to their leadership in data governance. Their holistic and strategic approach serves as an inspiration for other organizations looking to enhance their data management practices. As we continue our partnership with Grady Health, we are excited to support their ongoing journey toward excellence in analytics and data governance. This collaboration not only benefits Grady Health but also provides valuable insights and lessons that we can share with our broader community of clients and partners.
Key Innovations in Data Management
Informatica World 2024 introduced several pioneering technologies and solutions aimed at enhancing data governance and management.
Claire GPT:
Informatica’s AI-powered data management tool, Claire GPT, is designed to revolutionize data governance, data quality, and metadata management. By leveraging artificial intelligence, Claire GPT provides organizations with advanced capabilities to automate and streamline data management processes, ensuring higher accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
Users can ask Claire GPT questions to find their data, create pipelines, access documentation, and more. Sample questions include:
- What employee data can I use for analytics?
- Where does the employee data come from?
- What does the data look like?
- How many employees live in Nevada?
It uses real time data retrieval via the connection to answer questions and provide quality answers instantly.
Data Observability:
Data Observability is both a tool feature in Informatica and a conceptual approach to implementing data quality. It enables you to gain insights into your data and its changes over time, which helps in identifying key areas to monitor for maintaining data quality. By understanding the data’s behavior and trends, you can proactively address issues, ensure accuracy, and enhance the reliability of your data systems.
With this new functionality, you have more ways to explore the data before creating data quality rules. This allows you to use the data to drive insights and speed up the development lifecycle for data quality. For example, it identifies anomalies in your data like the Country field had special characters in it or your data of birth field data pattern was 2 digits and is now 6 digits. It summarizes theses scenarios and with a click of a button to accept the insight, a new data quality rule is created.
Cloud Data Access Management:
As more organizations migrate their data to cloud environments, securing and controlling access to this data becomes paramount. Informatica’s Cloud Data Access Management solution addresses these concerns by offering robust tools to manage and secure data access in the cloud. This ensures that sensitive data remains protected and that organizations can maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
