Tri 4 Schools is a non-profit serving the Madison, WI area and Dane County to provide opportunities for kids to be active. Their events and programs focus on the power of swimming, biking, and running as opportunities to teach children life skills such as setting goals, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. It’s also a fun and structured way to burn off extra energy and build a habit of being active after spending much of the day in the classroom. We were proud to present the Tri 4 Schools Golf Classic again this year, and we thought we’d share some of the highlights from the event.
To start, the weather was perfect! One of the Prominence Advisors staff in attendance was impressed by how organized the event was, without sacrificing the fun of having activities at each tee (her favorite was the Dizzy Club, requiring a few spins prior to hitting her drive). We also enjoyed the competitive spirit driven by the Hole prizes and the delicious dinner afterward.
What we enjoyed the most was hearing that Tri 4 Schools raised over $13,000, which is DOUBLE the amount raised last year. Through this fundraiser, Tri 4 Schools can extend their Exercise to Achievement program to 4 more sites. With this after-school program, kids from the lowest-income areas of the community are exposed to healthy habits that can help them both inside and outside the classroom. With nutrition education, mindfulness and meditation techniques, and swimming, biking, and running training, the athletes complete a triathlon at the end of eight weeks. This incredible program brings together kids of all ability levels and ethnicities to work towards a common goal – the finish line. In just three years, this program has helped over 1,000 children and created positive and healthier school cultures, and with the additional 4 sites, 120 more kids will have the chance to train for a triathlon in 2017.
We love opportunities to make a healthier tomorrow, and helping kids build healthy habits is hard to beat. We’re always excited to see what Tri 4 Schools is working on next – check out their website to get involved!
